It’s done. We’ve danced, we’ve visited, and we’ve had a great time. But now our annual dance weekend is over. Check for lost items. Many thanks to Great Bear Trio and Food for Thought and Rebecca, Rachel and Jane for powering the fun. With Gaye Fifer and Sarah VanNorstrand in the driver’s seat, we enjoyed super dancing. And bless all the volunteers who came together to organize the weekend, set up and take down the site. Reminisce on the Festival page. Ahhh!
Now that you’re done dancing, let us know what you think on our brief Festival survey. Thanks!
September is membership month at CDR. Members support traditional American and English social dance in the Rochester area, receive a $1 discount at our regular weekly dances, and will get to select the club officers at our annual meetings in September. Memberships run from October 1 for one year, through September 30. Renew now for 2014-2015.
Barb & Dan Seppeler are delighted to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary with a free English Country dance on Saturday, August 2 at First Baptist Church on Allens Creek Rd. Jacqueline Schwab, principal pianist with Bare Necessities and a performer on the soundtracks for several Ken Burns documentaries, will be providing music for the dance.
We have a very special opportunity to have Jacqueline conduct 2 master classes: one for musicians and a second for callers on the afternoon of Correction: Sunday, August 3rd. Her knowledge of traditional music and dance is extensive. These classes will be valuable to musicians and callers of either form of country dance. The cost to participants will be $15 per workshop. You may register through our payment page here on cdrochester.org. Or by calling (315) 573-4076 or e-mailing DSeppeler@gmail.com. Enrollment limited to 15 per workshop.
CDR believes experienced dancers, callers, musicians and organizers create a better atmosphere and community for all. One way to gain this experience is by attending dance camp. As a benefit of CDR membership, we are pleased to offer an annual partial scholarship to CDSS dance camp.
Preference will be given to applicants with the most potential to provide long term benefits to CDR by increasing their skills, knowledge and experience through attending camp. The deadline for CDR’s scholarship application is February 14, 2014. Copies are also available at the dances. Questions? Contact Lisa Brown for more information.
Oh the weather outside is frightful, indeed. Tonight’s Contra dance is canceled. Stay warm, dry and safe, folks! And we’ll see you at the dance next week.
Also next week, the Contra Planning Committee meets at 6:30 pm at the Golden Fox. Contact board at cdrochester dot org for details.
