Monday, January 14, 2013 - English Country Dance Classes start Feb. 3

Where: First Baptist Church of Rochester, 175 Allens Creek Road
When:
Every Sunday in February, 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Description:
A sequence of four beginner classes in English Country Dance, taught by Richard Sauvain & Dan Seppeler with live music.  We start from scratch, and experienced dancers will help you learn.   No partner needed; $5 per class.  Check out the flyer and pass it around!

Saturday, October 27, 2012 - Thanksgiving Dance Festival was Then

It’s done. We’ve danced, we’ve visited, and we’ve had a great time. BUt now our annual dance weekend is over. Many thanks to Elixir, the van Norstrands, Frivolity and Noteworthy helping to drive the fun.  Great calling also by Sarah van Norstrand and David Smukler.  Contra, English and more! Every year we elect the officers of the club.  The vote was held at the Contra Dance, September 27, 2012, at the break.  The officers were elected:

  • President: Kate Baron
  • Vice President: Marcia Locke
  • Treasurer: Mary Haverfield
  • Secretary: Joe Clark

Don’t forget to renew your membership!  CDR Members get $1 off dance admissions and the satisfaction of supporting traditional American and English social dancing in Rochester. Memberships now run from September 1 for one year, through August 31.   Membership in CDR costs $12 a year for an individual, $18 a year for a household. As always, we accept memberships at the dance and by mail. And, you can pay online using PayPal.

Wednesday, March 7, 2012 - Thursday Dance Moves! One Week Only!

This Thursday, April 5, we will be dancing in the Brighton High School gym, 1150 Winton Rd S, Rochester, NY 14618.  The dance starts at 8:00 pm, with an introductory lesson at 7:30 pm.   The following week, we’ll be back at our usual location.

We are welcoming visiting students from Rennes, France to the April 5 dance, and hope you will help to show them what a great dance tradition we have.  Lively music by Howard Blumenthal and friends, and great dances taught & called by our good friend Joyce Rossbach, now at the Augusta Heritage Center.

Thursday, February 23, 2012 - Contra Dance Lessons in March

We’ll be offering a pre-dance lesson at the Contra dance every Thursday in March. Come at 7:30 pm for a friendly introduction to the basic elements of community dance. If you’ve been thinking about getting out on the floor with us, but perhaps not quite ready to just jump in, here’s your chance to ease into it. Experienced dancers take note: it’s a great way to introduce your friends to this form we love so much.

Sunday, January 15, 2012 - Introductory English Country Dance Classes

February 5, 19 & 26, 3-5 pm.  Click here for flyer.

Description:  A series of three classes designed for absolute beginners that will cover the
basics of English figures and style at a relaxed pace and introduce you to some easy dances.  Also good for those who dance infrequently and want a refresher. $5 per class.  Students will be given free admission to the regular (and beginner-friendly) dances those evenings.  Highly recommended for newcomers to English Country dance who wish to attend our Jane Austen Ball in May.

  • Fabulous food on site for Saturday lunch & Dinner Adventure to group up for Saturday dinner
