Turning of the Year Ball
An elegant evening of English country dancing to welcome in the New Year, in a beautiful period setting. This year it will be on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2017 from 6 to 10 pm.
We will have exciting music by Tim Ball (violin) and Jane Knoeck (piano), and expert dance leading by David Smukler.
Plenty of free parking behind the building, and fantastic refreshments, including something new this year: savory snacks from 6 to 6:30 as we gather (as well as a longer refreshment break midway though the dancing).
The Ball is held at the Jonathan Child House, a beautiful 1837 mansion at 35 S. Washington St., Rochester, NY 14608. Our printable flyer includes driving directions. We will be dancing on beautiful new wood floors, and the house will be elaborately decorated for the holidays.
Tickets $30, students / low income $15.
This is a popular event, and as the dancing space at the Child House is limited, attendance is capped at 44 and pre-registration is strongly suggested.
Turning of the Year Ball Registration
NOTE: as of Dec. 11, this event is filled — limited dancing space makes it necessary to cap registrations. There are sometimes last minute cancellations, so you can still register if you would like to be on the wait list. Also, see the Dec. 29 event on our home page for Sixteen Going on Seventeen, another event at which you can dance in the New Year!
You can pre-register on-line here, or you can print and fill out the paper registration form. You can also register at any of our local English dances. Payment at the door will be accepted only in the unlikely event that the dance is not fully subscribed ahead of time.
Cancellation policy: registrations are fully refundable through Dec. 24. Cancellations after than date will be accepted only if we can fill your spot.
Chris Cassidy is the registrar; please address registration questions to him. If you want to come but cannot afford our prices, please do contact him; we can probably work something out that fits your budget.
