Great music and fantastic calling tonight!  Gaye Fifer is nationally known for her clear teaching, attention to detail, and wide repertoire of dances.  On stage with her are three of the best musicians around.  Andrew VanNorstrand from Syracuse always wows us with his outstanding fiddle and guitar playing.  Anna Patton makes the room swing with her amazing ability with the clarinet, and Julie Vallimont makes her own special magic on the keyboard.  It’s incredibly fun to watch these three musician friends play together and even more fun to dance to their music.

Theme for tonight: “Star Wars” so Wookies and Side-Hair-Buns get in free!

May the 4th Be With You!

Gaye Fifer

Gaye Fifer (Pittsburgh, PA) hasn’t stopped dancing since she found contras in 1979. Introduced to the community in St. Louis, she has found dancing wherever she goes. Gaye learned to call contras in Charlottesville, VA and has been traveling to call and dance for the past 25 years. After 15 years of dancing, she finally realized that someone had to be doing work to make the dances happen. She began serving on her local dance committee, organizing her local dance weekend, serving on the CDSS Board and leading workshops for other organizers. Gaye is also a passionate teacher and dancer of waltz, having led workshops with her partner, Wayne, at numerous dance weekends around the country. She participated in a course at Pinewoods several years ago to learn how to call English Country dances and now includes that in her repertoire of offerings. She now lives in Pittsburgh, PA. where she retired from a 30 year elementary school teaching career.

Band

Andrew Anna and Julie

Andrew VanNorstrand (fiddle/guitar), Anna Patton (Clarinet), Julie Vallimont (Keyboard/Accordion)

Andrew VanNorstrand, Anna Patton and Julie Vallimont are touring as a trio, playing fantastic dance music. Here in Western NY, we’ve delighted in Andrew’s music since he was a precocious tween growing into the rockin’ Great Bear Trio. Anna and her jazzy clarinet first came to our attention in the superstar band, Elixir. Julie’s inventive piano playing may be best known from the band Nor’easter. We look forward to seeing her solo album out late in the summer.
